“AWHL does an amazing job at making me feel as important and equal as anyone else in the organization through acknowledgment of my contributions, constant communication, and genuine appreciation. I’m proud to be a member of the family.”
R. Sooknanan
“Who knew volunteering was so easy? I love the flexible monthly volunteering schedule. Each month I can volunteer at a pace that’s right for me. It’s also been a great development opportunity which has allowed me to participate in initiatives that facilitate my own personal growth. When you combine that with the social importance of the work, the solid leadership, and the commitment of the volunteer team, it’s an unbelievable experience. I’d like to think that I give a lot to the AWHL, but the truth is, I think it gives more back to me.”
C. Albee
“I wanted to ensure that I was doing something to help AWHL continue to provide the outstanding support they provide for women. We need to acknowledge and address the fact that 50% of Canadian women will experience violence at some point in their lifetime. This is unacceptable and we must work to stop it.”
A. Duldhardt
“I joined the Helpline’s Resource Development Committee Board to give back to my community and when I found out about AWHL and the work that they did, it seemed like a very good cause. As I learn more about the issues, I realize HOW MUCH work really needs to be done.Women need to help each other out!! By giving a little of your time, you can make a world of difference in the lives of women. It is a great feeling to be part of such a special group and their projects.”
J. O’Donnell
“I feel completely committed to the cause and feel privileged to volunteer here. Ever since becoming a mum, I think more and more how lucky my daughter is to grow up in a secure and happy home and I often think about those children who live in fear and have to watch their mother suffer abuse, quite often at the hands of their father. If you’re like me and are fortunate to have grown up in a safe and secure home and currently find yourself in a loving and respectful relationship then you’ll want to give back to such an amazing cause and support those who have not been so fortunate. At least 50 per cent of women have experienced some form of abuse, that means at least some of your friends and family have been effected by this, but how many do you really know about, how many have admitted this, we have to stop the silence and the shame … by being involved with the AWHL or a like-minded charity you can help do this.”

“Once I met the women already working with the organization, I knew immediately that this was the right organization for me. The women working at AWHL are extremely passionate about the cause, intelligent and a hard working bunch.Being a part of AWHL is really like being a part of a family and family members help each other. The opportunities within this organization to be involved are vast and they are always open to my suggestions, allowing me to really effect change for women suffering from abuse.”
